Abortion services
Abortion is a medical or surgical procedure used to terminate a pregnancy. While abortion is legal in South Africa, many pregnant people still struggle to access safe and legal abortion services, for a number of reasons. Access to safe and legal abortion for all, regardless of race, economic background, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, or any other factor, is fundamental for sexual and reproductive justice to be realised.
The womb is self-cleaning after an abortion. Some women need treatment after abortion because of severe heavy bleeding or they may have tissue left in the uterus after the miscarriage. Small remains in the uterus can be treated with an extra doses of the abortion pill, Surgical evacuation of the uterus may be carried out on the woman’s request
Pregnancy preventions
If you’re seeking a long-lasting form of contraception, the contraceptive injection may be the perfect option for you. We offer a variety of contraceptive options, including the contraceptive injection, which is an effective and convenient form of birth control. The injection works by preventing ovulation and thickening cervical mucus, making it harder for sperm to reach the egg. It’s also a great option for women who struggle to remember to take a daily pill. In South Africa

If I am under 18, do I need a parent’s consent to get an abortion?
You do not need parental consent to obtain an abortion in Illinois. However, state law does require that all medical providers give at least 48 hours’ notice to an adult family member of a pregnant minor before proceeding with an abortion. This law only requires notification, not consent. As long as an adult family member is notified, the minor can obtain an abortion.
Can I have sex after an abortion?
We advise that patients wait until they have been examined at their follow-up appointment before engaging in sexual activity due to susceptibility to infection. Follow-up visits are typically scheduled 2-3 weeks after your first appointment.
Process
Is medical abortion safe?
How does the abortion pill work?
If you decide to terminate a pregnancy in its earliest stages (5-10 weeks), you may choose the abortion pill over a surgical abortion. The abortion pill process involves several steps and two different types of medicine that stop a pregnancy.
The first pill you take prevents the pregnancy from growing. The second pill induces cramping and bleeding to empty your uterus, much like what happens during a miscarriage.
In most instances, with the abortion pill process, you terminate the pregnancy in 4-5 hours.
How safe are surgical abortions?
Surgical abortions are extremely safe and effective when an experienced OB/GYN, like the ones at Mocare Abortion clinic, perform them. You’re under the highest standard of medical care in a safe, sterile environment. The team of doctors and nurses are with you every step of the way to explain the procedure, prepare you for recovery, and help with aftercare if you need it.
With any type of abortion, the team of Mocare Women’s Health nurses are available by phone 24 hours a day to answer your questions. And a physician is always on call.
To schedule a consultation or to learn more about your options, call the office or book an appointment online.
Yes – Medical abortion is very safe. Unless there is a very rare and serious complication that is not treated, there is no risk to future pregnancies or to the patient’s health. Having an abortion does not increase a woman’s risk of breast cancer or affect fertility. Emotional problems after an abortion are rare, and are more likely to happen in women who must end a pregnancy for health reasons, people who do not have support, or people who have a history of mental health issues. Most women feel relief after an abortion.
Do I need to see my doctor for a pregnancy test or ultrasound before my appointment?
No. You do not need to make a separate doctor’s appointment. We will perform a pregnancy test and ultrasound along with other laboratory tests on the day of your visit.

Is everything we discuss confidential?
If my pregnancy test is positive the week after an abortion, am I still pregnant?
Yes. Our clinic follows strict confidentiality guidelines. No one will have access to your medical records unless personally authorized by you.
Pregnancy hormones can remain in your body up to 4 weeks after a medical abortion. We will schedule a follow-up visit at the clinic 2-3 weeks after your procedure. At this time, we will perform all necessary tests to make sure you are no longer pregnant.
